I didn't know what to expect from Picture Us in the Light, but I saw amazing reviews - that it had a great story and was an emotional punch. I can confirm those reviews were telling the truth.

The story is very internal as the main character Danny is often stuck in a cycle of not saying what's on his mind, but also trying to keep his life from spiraling. As secrets of his parent's past unravel, his relationships with his friends grow strained, and he gets stuck in a drawing rut, there is a lot that Danny has to face.

Mainly who he is, where to go in life, and how to deal with a grief he's had all his life.

There were some occasions that I wanted to shake Danny and tell him to spit out what he was feeling - instead of half starts and words left unsaid. But this was still a remarkable book with a plot that was built slowly with each chapter and breathtaking prose.

What I especially loved about this book was the honesty behind emotions and the message that sometimes things don't always wrap up neatly but you have to move forward and keep going.

This is a book that will definitely stick with me for a long time.
