Thanks Bookish firsts and to Disney Hatchett Book Group for a copy to read and review. I was gifted a copy but it does not in any way reflect on my review of this book.

This was a well written and totally surprising novel. The journey this author took us on was unexpected and I'm deeply grateful to have been given a copy. I'm not one for YA books, especially ones of this genre. It pokes at racial slurs toward the Asian community, homosexuality, suicide, and one other theme which is hot in government right now but I won't list because it could be seen as a spoiler. Light touches throughout this book but it is totally appropriate for young adults. I'm not going to rehash the blurb but the main character in this book goes through some pretty tough decisions and is a truly remarkable character. His scholarship to RISD, for an art major is a major theme in the book, and totally poignant towards the end. I truly enjoyed this book, and I gave it five stars for its beautiful story.
