Gilbert definitely knows how to make sure there is plenty of plot for a reader to immerse themselves into. There is so much going on in Danny's life in just this novel I quickly found myself sympathizing with him and wanting to keep reading to make sure he ends up okay. Danny feels like a real person, flawed as he is at times. The storyline with the secret his parents are keeping from him was thrilling, and I found the plot twist well done and shocking! That being said though, some of the plotlines felt rushed and underdeveloped. There is so much to unpack that Gilbert may have benefited from writing a longer novel or cutting some of the plots out. I would prefer the former since I do think all the issues Danny is going through really build well into his character arc. The same can be said with other characters. Overall though, absolutely loved this read and do recommend it to others!
