Danny’s parents have worked hard to provide him with the education and opportunities to give him a bright future at a prestigious college. But when Danny finds a mysterious box with files on a family he has never met and Danny’s dad loses his job, it becomes hard for Danny to focus on his artwork as he worries more and more about the mysterious family issues his parents refuse to discuss with him.
One thing I really appreciated about this book is that it did not feature a romantic relationship, instead choosing to focus on friends and family, and heavier topics other characters, such as suicide, immigration, and adoption. I also liked that it focused on the process of applying for and getting accepted into colleges. This is a transition stage that I don’t often see in books, so I was glad to see that Danny went through that process. I do wish that the mystery plot line of the story would have been highlighted a little more. It seemed like it was just in the background, and Danny only pondered the situation as an afterthought when he didn’t have anything better to do, right up until the end where everything was wrapped up.
