I love this phrase, "The safety of hope". I think this book could really resonate in YA because that's a great description of the short period of time when you are planning and preparing to leave home, but not quite there yet. The characters are well developed even in this short excerpt. How good the story will turn out depends on the magnitude of the secrets being held by the characters.
