I like tweenies but usually not books about them nor in their voices. This book is changing my mind -- teenaged and tweenaged Daniel is introspective without being navel-gazing and, at the same time, observant enough about those outside of himself and his community to paint a compelling picture. There's no disbelief from the reader, brought on by adolescent bragging -- this kid really is an artist, the reader knows it and quickly becomes invested in Daniel, his art, his family, and his future.
