After having read the "First Look" at the book, I have to say that I was impressed both with the writing style and the tone, not to mention the subject matter. The book, while far lower from my preferred reading level, is one that immediately caught my attention. I could easily see myself reading this one out loud to my kiddo before bedtime. It wasn't what I expected based on the initial blurb about the book, but I was pleasantly surprised. I probably will not buy this one full price, but if I see it around in a used bookstore or on thriftbooks or something like that for under five bucks, then there's a strong likelihood that I will pick this one up. It reminds me of Bridge to Terabithia in its tone, with a similar vibe to Where the Red Fern Grows and a dash of Savage the Bones thrown in the mix. This book goes to show that just because a book is a kids book, it doesn't have to be ridiculously simplistic.
