I didn't know a lot about the Philippines or Dutarte's war on drugs before I read the book, but wow. It was pretty intense and poignant at times, but I enjoyed reading it. I can't speak to any of the subject matter and the representation but in terms of a story and characters I was really glad I read this book. There were also a surprising number of queer characters, and I really appreciated that.
I also really like the cover for this book. I didn't unfortunately like the romance all that much, but that's a pretty frequent occurrence. All in all, I'm interested to see what Randy Ribay writes next, and I might go and check out some of his backlist titles, though they don't draw me quite as much as this one did.
