Patron Saints of Nothing is a book that takes you on a roller coaster ride of emotions that you won’t forget.

Going into this story I had a little knowledge of President Duterte and the extreme war on drugs currently taking place in the Philippines. Even with some limited knowledge I was shocked by this book. It delves not only into the politics of the Philippines but the lives that are affected by poverty, drugs and current practices being implemented by the government.

When Jay discovers his cousin Jun was murdered by the police and that no one is talking about why he decides to visit his family in the Philippines and find out the truth. As the mystery of Jun’s life unfolds, Jay is faced with some hard truths and the realization that things are not always as simple as they may seem. This story is not only eye-opening and at times gut wrenching but also filled with hope.
