A very sad and eye opening story...
This is a First Look Review....
Jason is a 17 yr old Filipino American. He is about to graduate high school. His only worries are video games and holding out for the last few months of school. That is until his dad tells him that his cousin Jun has died. Jason's father doesn't want to tell him what happened to Jun. There will be no funeral and no one wants to talk about it. They just want to move on with their lives and act like Jun did not exist. Jason corners his mother and she gives him the truth. Jun was shot and killed by the police.
As Jason goes on an internet spree, tryin to find out what is going on in the Philipines, and what exactly happened to Jun, he realizes that everything he thought was important, isn't. At the end of the excerpt, he is getting ready to board a plane to the Philipines. He's on a mission to try to make a difference, to find out what really happened to Jun and why.
Even with this just being an excerpt, I already know that this book is going to touch on things that most of us are afraid to see. We don't look beyond our own lives to see the suffering that is going on around us until it happens to us or someone we love.
