This book's beginning surprised me and although it was sad, it tossed me right into the setting and I could feel the heat, smell the smoke, and know the sorrow of death (I just lost a pet this past week so I can relate). Then as soon as the narrator took me to my home state, I was hooked deeper. I can't wait to read this emotional book of family and friendship and coming of age.
