This book started out extremely slow for me. I could not get into it, and I found my mind wandering. For some reason I was just not able to concentrate on this story.
This started with Elsa's life before the war. I felt there was a lot of repetition to the story, reiterating what was already said. I got annoyed with that and found it difficult to enjoy after that.
I was really looking forward to reading this story, and after so many wonderful reviews from others, I was expecting something astonishing and captivating. Maybe I was expecting too much.
There wasn't any of the usual violence and suspense for a WWII novel. This was more of a story on Elsa's life than a story about WWII.
Maybe another time I will try to read this again and hopefully I will enjoy it then.
