I have to admit that this time period in Italy is not something that I know a lot of information about. I found this excerpt extremely well written and interesting. A little bit of politics are thrown in along with the concept of a woman managing a pensione (inn?), which makes it read more like a historical fiction rather than a nonfiction. I really enjoyed this excerpt and would love to read the entire story to learn more about that time period.
