I absolutely loved the beginning and was immediately captivated by the little mystery. As the story shifted, we lost sight of the mystery or how it had anything to do with what we were now being told. I wanted to know more about the beginning part. We were brought so far back in the past that I wasn't even sure of the relevance of the beginning anymore. They hook you, and then somewhat lose you.
