Set in California, the Hollywood area, LAPD detectives are called in when a body is found by a local prop maker in the area, Sparks. Jarsdel arrives on scene not to find a murder different from the usual MO. The man has been cooked, and not by the Los Angeles sun. His partner, Morales, a senior detective tells Jarsdel, aka The Professor to go ahead and take the lead on the case. As the interview their only witness Sparks, a story emerges of a van, a man and a dumping of a body. Will Jarsdel be able to solve it on the vague evidence?

The writing style is actually really wordy, telling a lot of extra and unnecessary facts (i.e. tectonic plates, the coyote and what it's thinking) but the overall plot of the book is intriguing. I would love to find out what happens with the case but I would've preferred not to have as much unnecessary "background" or "filler" information.
