This book is gripping from the first paragraph. The descriptions are vivid, without being overwhelming. The details are such that I was able to clearly imagine myself deep within the scenes described, looking around, seeing the streets, the people, the one-eyed, starving coyote, the cooked, abused body. It's rare to find a writer able to so fluidly describe settings without the writing becoming tedious. This was a delight, while also being steadily intriguing.
