The imagery of the location really caught me from the first page, and from there the character development pulled me in the rest of the way. It has the fast pace and chatter of a traditional cop novel but the author has a way with words that's tantalizing. The author's confident voice in describing the science and police procedure set the stage for the quality of what's to come, and to know that there's something vague at stake for the protagonist's future really has me wanting to read more and finding out how everything unravels.

The cover seems brighter and more colorful than my first impression of the book, which is kind of dark and seedy and real, but there's nothing offensive about it.
