I have no problem with gruesome and was intrigued by the crime at hand. But I, like everyone else in the book, was not fond of the main character and his ruminations. He really did have a better than thou issue but it seems like he's rying work towards it. I honestly skipped the paragraphs when he thought about stuff that had no tie in to the actual case.
