Reading the First Impression felt a bit like watching an episode of Criminal Minds. I was immediately engulfed in the scene. The descriptions, while gruesome, were not overdone. The dialogue feels natural and the premise is promising. While television crime dramas can be overdramatized, I do not get that feeling from the excerpt of this book.
The cover is simple and two-dimensional, but just looking at it makes you feel as though you're in Southern California. I was born and raised there, so I recognize the haze of the city smog, the heat in the orange hues, the cool water in the blue, and the palm trees that are so common you'd think they were a natural flora of the region.
