When considering the breadth and depth of the human race, it's easy to gravitate to a crime drama. The atrocities people commit against their own species has astounded the greater public throughout history, but often has the sad side effect of leaving us shocked, depressed, and feeling hopeless and frightened. Yet there is an irresistible draw of the macabre that keeps us looking at and considering those atrocities over and over again.

Crime dramas allow us to consider the worst of humanity and simultaneously experience some of the best. Law enforcement officers often work grueling hours to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles, striving to catch the villains and keep the rest of society just a little bit safer.

Jarsdel is one of those heroes. A man that the reader immediately cheers for. He is brought to life by the author's exquisite writing. This First Look was a joy to read, better than poetry, and I cannot wait to read more!
