2.5 This was a good historical fiction and a unique one as I had learned much about the use of pigeons during war times for communication. Unfortunately, it took quite a while to pick up and I wish something exciting would have happened earlier on in the book. I was really looking forward to the murder mystery aspect, but I felt underwhelmed by it while mixing with the war time focus. I struggled with parts of the plot lacking action and moving too slow, along with some description and dialogue that seemed unnecessary and slowed down the pacing. The author does great giving lots of character development to Olive, who is a fantastic character I could see myself being great friends with in real life, and I appreciated her animal-loving side, even if it was towards pigeons:) I can see fans of historical fiction, WWII especially, loving this book more than I.
