This is a cozy mystery about Olive Bright who was studying to become a vet, but the war brought her back home early. Olive returns home to help her father with his business, which is the local vet's office. He also needs help at home, as Olive's stepmother is unwell. The family raises racing pigeons, which becomes very important aspect as the story unfolds.
The premise of this book sounded interesting and as a person who's worked with animals for many years, I thought this would be right up my alley. Unfortunately, it was just not for me. I found the plot to be slow and did not connect to the main character at all. The use of pigeons in the war was intriguing, I just needed this one to have more substance. There wasn't enough character development and good dialog for me to feel invested.
This was just not the right story for me, but I can see how it might work well for others.
