A book about pigeons being used to carry secret coded messages during World War II sounded so cool. I was immediately, intrigued and wanted to read this book. Then I started reading it and was left stuck in a flat, disappointing read that focused way too much time and energy towards describing frivolous details. I couldn't do it. I couldn't get into the story or get into the head of Olive. It was a disappointment to have this really cool story idea turn into something unreadable due to the dullness of the writing. I managed to get between a quarter and third of the way through the book before I had to put it down. The focus of the novel was far too much on details describing every little thing that I was actually pushed out of the world and setting the author was describing. That is pretty bad. So, I had to DNF this one. Maybe I will go back and give it another chance one day.
