Olive Bright is a strong female character (annoying at times), but she wants to do more than knit and roll bandages as her village in England is in the midst of WWII. She wants to live up to the reputation that her mother had as an ambulance driver in WWI.
She believes her ticket to this destination is through the pigeons she and her father raise. These pigeons are raised to race and to carry messages behind enemy lines. I found this information fascinating. I was aware pigeons were used in war time, but I didn’t know the extent of the training. Captain Aldridge comes into her life with the promise of using said pigeons. In the meantime, someone is murdered right there in their village. Because Olive is a big Agatha Christie fan, she feels she can solve the murder. She herself becomes a victim of the murderer.
I would recommend this to those who enjoy a cozy mystery with a little historical fiction thrown in.
