Thank you to Bookish First for a copy of Olive Bright, Pigeoneer.

Olive lives in the quiet village of Pipley, but she has ambitions to become a veterinarian like her father. WWII has postponed her schooling, so she sees her racing pigeons as the way she can contribute to the war effort.

The village is upturned when the resident busybody, Verity Husselbee, is found dead. Olive suspects foul play and starts digging to prove her dead wasn't accidental.

This book reminded me of the Nancy Drew mysteries I read when I was younger. In fact, other than a few references to 'romance' and an illegitimate pregnancy as being 'in the pudding', the book read as a young adult novel.

The book is full of interesting characters and a quaint setting, and is perfectly set up to become a series. If you are looking for a light mystery read, I recommend Olive Bright, Pigeoneer,
