This story has a really strong sense of character and place, which is always pivotal in well executed historical fiction. Olive Bright pops right off the page as a very relatable character, in the midst of a crisis that might be in the distant past, but by no means feels distant to the reader when reading this story. I like that this story takes a look at village life during the war and how individual lives are impacted -- and the types of mysteries that pop up.
