I appreciate that this feels like a different take on WWII fiction. Our main character is a veterinarian and that’s a more unique character for this historical fiction book. Unfortunately, I wasn’t a huge fan of the narrative voice and had a hard time being pulled in. I’m not a huge historical fiction fan so the writing has to be very engaging. This, while period specific, didn’t draw me.
