Teens with dreams of stardom might immediately attach themselves to 18-year-old protagonist Evie Jones, but most high schoolers won't be able to relate. Evie attends a performing arts high school, has just received a starring role in a feature film, and is related to one of the greatest actresses of all time. And while "unfamiliar" stories and characters can heighten a reader's curiosity about a book, I don't think teens will care that a fictional character's grandma snubbed her ex during an awards ceremony. The early plot point that may intrigue readers into continuing further is the reveal that Evie's best friend, Simone, blackmails Evie with footage of her drunkenly mocking her new movie's director. Ouch. This reveal and its aftermath may get readers to stick around long enough to get to the crux of the story and the romantic subplot it promises in the synopsis.
