Is there a more perfect man than Gabriel Marlington? I mean, the hair, the eyes, the attitude, the clothing? *swoon* I can honestly say that I adored this book. It kept me turning pages late into the night. The writing was wonderful. The characters were swept and intriguing and watching them grow as individuals and a couple was so much fun. Then there is the steam. Take the tea kettle off bc it’s whistling kind of steam. I’m sitting over here fanning my face and blushing kind of steam (and folks, I’ve been married 8 years now).

Notorious is the first in a new historical romance series by the great Minerva Spencer. Drusilla Clare has many many opinions about many many things but especially why a woman should have to marry and become the property of her husband. She has also been in love with Gabriel Marlington since the first time she laid eyes on him but you would never know by the biting commentary and witty remarks she constantly pushes his way. Gabriel is the son of the former Sultan of Oran and Lady Exley (though she is remarried to the current Marquess of Exley) and has a reputation for female companions he enjoys. When Drusilla finds herself in a scandalous situation and Gabriel as her rescuer the two are put in a delicate spot. They must marrry. Gabriel proposes out of a since of duty and Drusilla must accept to save her reputation but will they be able to find a way to make the marriage, if not happy, at least companionable?

As I said before, I adored this book. The writing and world building are beautiful and kept me “just one more chapter[ing]” throughout the night. I love the misunderstandings and witty banter between Gabe and Dru from the beginning and absolutely enjoyed watching their relationship grow from one of necessity to something more. The supporting characters are fun and completely lovable, specifically Lady Eva (Gabriel’s stepsister and Drusilla’s best friend) and Viscount Byer (Gabriel’s oldest and eccentric friend).

The plot is good and the mystery, though predicable, was not unpleasant and did give me a little surprise. The main “villain” of the story is interesting and his motives we still do not know fully and will have to wait until book 2 and I can already tell you that I am excited to see where this adventure takes us. Notorious is the kind of book you pick up when you want a light, easy, romance filled read.
