Historical romances are an unusual choice for me, partly because I find it hard to stay engaged with historical language if the pacing slogs even a bit. This one gets right into a well-paced, interesting, story from the start. The one thing that leave me unsure is that already in the first few chapters, the hero's background seems complex and confusing, and I wonder whether this becomes more clear or more muddled as the story develops.
