The book opens in 1817, and the reader is immediately drawn into the quirks and backstories between the two protagonists, Drusilla (Dru) and Eva, who come from similar, but very different backgrounds. Their diversity brings completely different perspective to the developing story and to the ways they interact with each other and others as the novel progresses.
