My daughter was a huge fan of The Descendants as a pre-teen, which is how I became acquainted with Melissa de la Cruz. And I really enjoyed the tv show too, so I was hoping to love this one. It turns out (surprise surprise) that I'm not really the target audience here so I ended up thinking it was just ok. I did enjoy the setting though (perfect North Pasadena) and the action was fun. Filomenia is a strong female character who would be a great role model for a tween girl and I definitely cheered her on during her adventures. I think Never After would be a really fun mother-daughter tween read or a library book club book because I would be interested to hear the opinion of someone who WAS the target reader. Overall I am not upset that I read this, I just am not rushing out to purchase the remainder of the series. It is also a good reminder that although these books always look fun to me, they are probably not going to be my favorite reads.
