Imaginative and creative real life fairy tale!
Thank you to Melissa de la Cruz, Roaring Brook Press, Macmillian Publishing Group and Bookish First for a copy of Never After. I don't give away spoilers in my reviews.
This is the second book by Melissa de la Cruz I've read (the first was Jo & Laurie). I was immediately drawn to the cover, colors, title and blurb and used my points to secure a copy.
I am not usually a fan of fantasy - but I loved the creativity and imagination that went into this storyline. I laughed at the fairy tale characters and loved their inclusion in the Never After. I found the main character, Filomena to be strong, nerdy and a fun character.
I cannot wait to share this book with my nieces. I know they will love reading about Filomena's struggles at school, her quirkiness meeting Jack and the story of Never After.
I have to admit - my favorite character was Gretchen (of the famous Hansel and Gretchen). I would love to see Gretchen have her own book. She's hilarious and I can picture her clearly.
Just a creative, wonderfully imaginative, clever story about fairy tales - the REAL fairy tales.
