Melissa de la Cruz has a tendency to cater toward a younger audience than my usual, but there is a certain whimsy in her writing reminiscent of the greats that made me the reader I am in the first place. That's not to say she hasn't written her fair share of teen novels, Blue Blood and Witches of East End among them- they just don't grab me in quite the same way.
The Never After Chronicles is promising to be the same torturous coming-of-age that awes and inspires. How everything is bigger and more emotional, adults never listen, and hard truths are overcome by finding confidence in oneself.
Whats more, the prose is truly masterful. MdlC has always been a wordsmith turning phrases that invite the reader into the fold, full of 'I see what you did there' moments.
I cannot wait to devour this 'guilty pleasure' series when I need my next emotional tune-up.
