This book is whimsical, magical, and just interesting overall. The writing feels a little juvenile to me but that's totally valid because it's MEANT for a middle-grade audience. I think the cover is cute and really sets the tone for the story as well. However, this book just isn't it for me or anyone I know (I don't have anyone in our family who fits the target demographic either). I prefer my middlegrades more ... spooky a la Neil Gaiman and perhaps with a bit more depth. This isn't the fault of this book but just my preference.
