I would like to thank publisher Crooked Lane books and author Kira Peikoff for a copy of Mother Knows Best, on sale 9/10/2019, that I received in exchange for my honest review.
To lose a child is a heartbreak like no other; Claire and Ethan Abrams had to endure that heartbreak after losing their son to mitochondrial disease, inherited from his mother. After years of depression and healing from their loss Ethan and Claire are ready to try again. Claire is worried though and knows passing mitochondria down to her child is inevitable, unless there’s another way.
Meanwhile, Dr. Robert Nash, a well known fertility Doctor and his partner Jillian Hendricks are on the brink of something extraordinary; changing the genes of embryos. When Claire learns of Dr. Nash’s experiment from a mito-support group member, she volunteers to be his test subject. Claire knows she’s found her answer to her genetic problem until she leaks the news to the wrong person. Now Claire’s only concern is the health and safety of her unborn child and what the future holds for all of them.

I’m speechless right now. I loved everything about this book. Mother Knows Best was told in multiple point of views, past and present. The chapters were short, and fast paced. with each turn of the page I wanted more. Kira Peikoff had me on the edge of my seat. I cried some and thought “WTF?!” quite a bit and “Did she really?!”. There were a couple times I wanted to throw it across the room; trust me when I say this was all out of love. I wish I could read a book without crying at the end. Seriously though, the ending was perfect and deserved every tear. This book was AMAZING! If you want to read a novel about an incredible fertility doctor, a scientist madly in love gone mad, a mother desperate for another child and the lengths she would go to protect her child, Mother Knows Best (on sale September 10) should be your next read!
