In the beginning of the book, the family is celebrating the deceased son's birthday with a museum trip. This is one of the very few outings that Claire goes out into the world for. This year's trip is very different and when they arrive the daughter has them meet the woman that has caused the mother to go into hiding. It will be interesting to see how the book ties back into the story that has brought the red-haired daughter into the world.
