You immediately head out with a bang on this one, within the first chapter already seeing how fractured mentally the mother is and how there will be a great many secrets that it seems she is hiding from the family. Hinting at a scandalous past, she sounds like she will be a really fascinating and damaged character. The alternating chapters by different characters trope in this seems like it will help make this tale different than other damaged female stories that are out there. I think the multiple perspectives will help provide a deeper mystery by not laying everything out so quickly.
The daughter Abby, sound like the kind of teenager that will make for the perfect foil to find out why her mom is the way she is. It will likely be interesting to explore the ingenuity of a teenager dying to know what's going on. So many questions are already introduced within the first couple chapters that it has not taken long for it to get it's claws in me! What sort of scandal was the mom involved in? Who's J and why is she out to get them? I'd love to be able to know more!
