The summary of the book sounded vaguely interesting, but I found the excerpt overly dramatic. The voice for Abby in particular didn't sit well with me.

I also had some issues with the way scientific issues were presented in the book. First, the idea of having "37 of the same genes" is meaningless! People have different variants of genes, but we all have a generally similar set of genes. This kind of mistake doesn't bode well for the rest of the book. (I was also bothered by the idea that a 10 year old could set up her own fictional 23andMe account). It all feels sensationalized and very silly.
