I liked how this story started off - the acerbic thoughts of the mother gave me a bit of a Gillian Flynn vibe, which I dig! But then at the introduction of the mysterious J, it seems like it might be veering more into women-pitted-against each other revenge plots, which doesn't seem as interesting. Who knows, though? Since this is a thriller, I can't bank on things being exactly as they seem from the start of the story. I'd probably want to hear some recommendations from people I know before I gave this one a read.
