This book is one of those that drew me in from the very beginning page. It was like a moth drawn to a light....I couldn't help but keep reading and wanting to find out what was going to happen next. The sudden and unexpected twists and turns are surprising and out of nowhere. OH, my, and the cliff hanger chapter endings caused me to want to go on reading. I HAD to! I felt the fears, anxieties and terror that Alice felt. Why was her life so terrible after what happened to her when she was 14. Always afraid of someone watching her, following her and never knowing who it was or why. Who could she trust? Everyone was suspect. Her life was a mess and she couldn't find a way out or answers to help. Who IS Mister Tender? There was a page in the book that Alice is speaking and explaining who he was. Page 190 in the book...
"The Mister Tender graphic novels were a sensation at the time and nowhere was their popularity greater than at my school. Rather than featuring superheroes or extravagantly overdrawn villains, the Mister Tender stories were simple, dark, psychological studies, all centered around one man and his power of persuasion. A man obsessed with the question, "How far would you go?" Mister Tender didn't have to lure his pawns in. They simply walked up to the bar and started talking-and everyone at Mister Tenders bar had a story. All he had to do was listen. He had intense charm, bottomless empathy, and the ability to ask the right questions at the exact right times."
I was scared, thrilled, and taken on a story ride that was chilling to say the least. . Thank you bookish for the opportunity to read this book and give my honest opinion.
