I was surprised by first the length of the preview and then how quickly I sped through it. Mister Tender, a character created by Alice's father, was used by two girls who claimed possession by the fictional character to stab Alice at fourteen. 2 years later she was uprooted from England to the states and had a problem fitting in. Heroin, school drama and a mysterious ex boyfriend who seems poised to make a return are all mysteries building on each other in the first 30 pages. I literally could have marked at least three mysteries that are being concocted right from the start. The first impression ends with a mystery envelope being delivered to Alice at work with the final Mister Tender novel enclosed. Thing is, Alice's father was stabbed to death and no one finished the series. The cover leaves a lot to be desired as far as design and standing out on a shelf.
