Visually, this book looks astounding. The cover's colors remind me of a throwback to an older period, but definitely represents graphic novels. In this intelligent combination of past and graphic novel, the cover itself hints at what is inside.

The title of the book made me think that this novel would be about trafficking, or some other heinous abuses. Although not completely wrong, I was pleasantly surprised when I realized this story makes connections with true-life crime - Slenderman. In a similar fashion, two teenage girls stabbed their friends because of their belief in a fictional online character named Slenderman, and their belief that they needed to sacrifice their friend to him. I personally love when fiction mirrors real life - it gives it meaning and further understanding into the shocking occurrences that happen in life.

Although I sometimes avoid psychological thrillers, I always have loved thrillers. I know I am falling in love with a thriller when I begin to question every character that begins to enter into the protagonist's life and wonder if they are the one who is causing this pain. However, the reason I avoid psychological thrillers is due to the extreme and uncomfortable closeness one feels when reading their trauma. In particular, this author uses the first person to write her story, which always scares me because it makes me worry that I will avoid the character.

All being said, this thriller has already captivated me - though I am scared to keep reading. Sometimes those are the best reads because they cause you to question yourself and push the boundaries in your life.
