After reading the synopsis, I wasn’t sure that I would like the sample. Boy, was I surprised. The sample grabbed my attention from the beginning and held it until the end. I enjoyed the gradual reveal of some of the past events/traumas that Alice had endured and how that has shaped the person she is now. I also liked the introduction of multiple sources of anxiety for Alice which I think will be flushed out more in the remainder of the book. I also wonder if Alice will be revealed to be an unreliable narrator as the story progresses. I’m also oddly fascinated by the Mister Tender character and how he could have impacted the readers so strongly that 2 teenagers stabbed Alice. I’m not a fan of the book cover. After reading the sample, I think it would have been cool to have the Mister Tender character on the cover.
