I immediately liked Alice. She’s a woman of few words; lean, strong, and mean as a snake.
Alice is pouring her heart out to me. She laments being lonely and having no one to talk to but she doesn’t realize I’m here and I’m following every thought. Alice was transplanted from Old England to New England after her parents divorced. The divorce was a direct result of Alice being attacked. Alice was attacked by someone imitating Mr. Tender, a character created in her father‘s mind and described in graphic novels.
In the past 24 hours three things have happened to make Alice very concerned that Mr. Tender is now stalking her in New England. And there’s also that dirty little secret about the time Alice spent hooked on heroin, which she doesn’t want to talk about, understandably.
