This book is a tangle of relationships that each hold their own depth and trauma. It is an incredible thing when you feel as though you can resonate with pains that each of the characters are struggling with. Marley was merely a girl looking for a family, but she became intertwined with a family that turned her life upside down in messy ways. I loved the exploration into the role many families view the mother or women to have, and how those around them see nothing wrong with the burnout they are experiencing. I also loved the focus on themes of grief and love.

Without the underlying murder in the book, I think this book might have come across a little slower. However, with the murder, it gave us something to look forward to, and a reason to continue reading outside of just the family dynamics.

This book also did a beautiful job of transporting the reader to Mercury. I felt as thought I was there in this small little town, experiencing the ups and downs with them.
