Wow. The amazing Joseph family. I loved and hated each one in turn but the love won out. It’s difficult for me sometimes to read about families with a lot of dysfunction and misery. This family certainly had them in spades. Mick, the father, came back from Vietnam a broken man and never really figured out life after and how to love his family. As a result his three sons struggled to find their own place in the family. Enter Marley who dates one son, only to fall in love with another and become a mother to the third. She struggles with her own place in the family trying to be all that and fighting for love from a mother in law that has none to give her. My heart broke for the youngest son, in love with another man and desperate to be seen. Given all of this, a family could have shattered. But, in the end, they realize that what’s important is not themselves but their love for each other. This book is a must read for anyone in a struggling family that needs reinforcement for what’s important in their lives.
