I am late to the First Impression game, since I just made my Bookish First account last week, but this was a particularly beautiful excerpt. The details are stunning, but they do not distract from the story. I'm intrigued by the mystery - gotta love a random dead body dropping from the ceiling! I definitely want to read more.

It has grit without feeling grimy, drama without feeling overly wrought. The characters are set up to be heartbreaking, from Marley's desire to have a place where she belongs to an eighteen year old Baylor having his first confession of emotions to Waylon feeling stagnant in his own life. Both the past and present timelines pack a powerful emotional punch, clouded by the ever-present shadow of Mick Joseph. How does this girl become both wife and daughter? How does the desire to be wanted permeate everything? How does it lead to a body in a church ceiling? I have a lot of questions, and I can't wait to read to find the answers.
