This book sat really heavy in my chest, like I was stuck in the thick of it with them.

It felt like Marley never had a choice; like she was sucked into it against her will and every opportunity she thought she had was pre chosen for her. But she was smart and brave and independent - she just kept getting sucked back in.

And the family dynamics were so complex and angsty and raw. All three brothers truly adored her in their own ways, and their parents resented her for it.

I couldn’t get past her relationship with her mom, either - that relentless and messy and deep love that couldn’t be taken away by time or distance or the way they’d changed as women.

At the root of it all was the way that the women ran in the background - managing the whims and the projects and the mental load of the men (or lack thereof) and for virtually no recognition or even acknowledgment. But we know about that, don’t we?
