Mercury by Amy Jo Burns is a family drama through-and-through. Marley moves to Pennsylvania with her mother, and quickly becomes entangled in the Joseph family. From the excerpt above, I knew from the beginning that there would be plenty of inter-character drama, but even so, I was surprised at how consistent and realistic it was. There wasn't conflict just for conflict's sake, each time the plot and characters benefitted from it. The characters are all very complex, though not necessarily nice to each other. This book held my interest the whole way through, even though it isn't my typical genre of book to read. It would definitely make a great book club book to discuss with a group!
